South West Tour Ride for The Prostate Cancer Charity
South West Tour Ride - 5th September 2010
There are three rides that can be entered, a Pro Ride 150 km, Challenge Ride 75 km and a Family Ride of about 15km.
I have registered our team as Axe Valley Pedallers. for the Pro Ride and Axe Valley Pedallers 75k for the Challenge Ride.
This is about as close as most of us are going to get to being treated like a professional cyclist and to take part in an official stage of the Tour of Britain.

Re: South West Tour Ride for The Prostate Cancer Charity
By way of a bit of background:
John Neate, The Prostate Cancer Charity's Chief Executive, said: "Last year’s events proved hugely successful and we received extremely positive feedback from participants about the organisation of the day and the fact that they could take on a leg of the actual Tour of Britain for the first time."
"Of course, everyone who takes part, as well as completing a personal challenge, will be helping the Charity to raise awareness of prostate cancer and helping us to raise funds to fight the disease, which kills one man every hour in the UK. We are delighted to be entering into the second year of our successful partnership with The Tour of Britain. Places are limited for the event, so we are urging cyclists to ensure they are at the start line by signing up early."
"The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride, the first event of its kind in Great Britain, provided members of the public with a unique opportunity to get on their bikes and ride the official Stoke-on-Trent stage of The 2009 Tour of Britain race, all in support of a fantastic cause," said Hugh Roberts, CEO of The Tour of Britain. "The inaugural event in Stoke-on-Trent proved to be a huge success and this year we are pleased to be extending the number of Tour Rides to include a new ride in the South West."
The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Rides cost £40 for the full stage distances, £30 for the 70km distances and £20 for a family of four to do the 20km Family Rides. Places are limited and expected to fill up fast, riders are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.

Re: South West Tour Ride for The Prostate Cancer Charity
The route has as not yet been fully signed off, however it is very close and it looks as if it might have about the same height gain as the likes of the Dartmoor Devil, which should be fine over a 100 miles as the Dartmoor Devil does it in 64 miles.
I know that a number of you are thinking of signing up......give yourself something to aim for and join the Team!

Re: South West Tour Ride for The Prostate Cancer Charity
Hi Madal,
Sign me up for the leg of T of B in Sept, Hope this will get me motivated to get back on bike. Its been nearly 8 month since bottom and saddle have joined forces and I fear the worst that I have 3 bikes at home that have all got a flat side on each wheel where they have been left unmoved for that same period of time!!!
Re: South West Tour Ride for The Prostate Cancer Charity
Just to let you all know that the route, which is a coast to coast, is going to take us from Minehead to Teignmouth. Just in case you wanted to know Those of you kept asking me where it was going now know.
I'm sure we can make an entry of 20 to the Pro Ride, if not more!
