A little more info on the practice day from Andy Parker (BC South West Events Officer)

myself Ric and Chris Yates would like to extend the opportunity to hold a training session with you, your club riders and volunteers. Ideally there would be twenty riders (of any age) who could undertake a mock race and skills session. It will also give you an insight into the role of the Go Ride coach. We can also look at the process of signing on, marshalling and judging the event. We are all available on Sunday 14th March from 10 -12 can you advise if you are available to attend and how many riders you will bring
Sunday race mornings 23rd May 6th June 20th June
If you have any queries just ask.
Please add your name to the list if you're interested in having a go and state whether you are a helper or racer.
The race on the 20th June is the one that will be hosted by AVP.
Also, you don't have to attend every race you can do as many as you like. Same goes for helping out but obviously if you could make the 20th then that would be ace. Why not do a some racing and then put something back by helping out another day
Can you give me an idea of when you'd like to race and when you'd like to help. Don't worry, it won't be cast in stone just helps me get an idea of numbers on each date. Thanks
I'm really looking forward to it, should be ace fun and a great friendly atmosphere. And, of course, the sun will out by then
Strictly speaking, no, they don't have to join AVP but obviously it would be nice if they did. Of course, if they do join AVP this year they'll also get a year's free Bronze British Cycling membership (

) that includes a provisional race licence. That will be very handy if they enjoy this series and what to try out some more racing elsewhere. So £10 well spent
To qualify they simply need to be novices / beginners. If they are already shaving their legs and have a full licence it's not for them. So it's a case of more the merrier.
We do need to provide volunteers for the events though and since quite a number of us enjoyed a year of racing last year without actually contributing I think it's only fair we try and put something back this time round. In fact, I think you were the only Pedaller to do any volunteering / marshalling so well done you.
There's no obligation to help put perhaps some of those that wish to have have a go at racing could also put their name down to help for another day too. I realise not everyone will be in a position to help but if they are then it will be very much appreciated.
Let me know who, what and when and we can put them on the list.
It's going to be at the park & ride opposite the met office. If you fancy a bit of a practice before racing proper then come on the 14/03 for the race organisation training session. You can ride the course then to get a feel for it.

I'm up for a bit of helping out
Nice one quiff, very much appreciated. Can you make the organisation training? And what about racing, are you up for a bit of that too?
This sounds very good. I think I’m definitely up for the practice event. But for the actual races do you need to know in advance or can it be neared the time? I'm sure I could make some.
Hello Nevis, I plan to be there, but I'm on call which is a right pain, I'll try and get one of my colleuges to cover for me, whats the start finish time ?
Brilliant, it starts at 10am and finishes at 12pm. There's a bit more detail at the top of the this thread and if you can make this Thursday Andy should be able to explain it all in more detail.
Our would be racers are:
Nevis : Help 14/3, 6/6, 20/6 Nelly : tba Quiff : Help 14/3 Bruster : 14/3
I'm well up for this Sunday! Only problem is getting there. As its mother’s day, my mum and sister are reading in church, but mother did say I could go! Is there any chance of a lift?
Quiff's coming from your direction so he might be able to take you over. He's on call so if he has to disappear half way through I'm happy to drop you back, not a problem.
Hopefully Nelly will come to so there's another possibility.
Hey Bruce, I've got you a ride for Sunday, Quiff will take you there and back. In the event he gets called out Nelly and I will be able to sort you out. Can you pm Quiff to arrange with him and also pm me your mobile just in case Quiff has to go to work.
Our would be racers are:
Nevis : 14/03 - Help, 6/6, 20/6 Nelly : 14/03 - Help Quiff : 14/03 - Help Bruster : 14/3 - Ride Chequers : 14/03 - One thumbed helper ouch!
If anyone else is interested in taking part this Sunday please let me know asap.
It's shaping up to be a very exciting event and hopefully the precursor to a really cool grand plan for later this year so if you'd like to be part of it do let me know.
Excellent, I'll put you down for this Sunday as well then. We have a couple of months before the first race so we've plenty of time to work out the other dates. Do you want a lift?
Just to clarify the venue is the Park & Ride carpark on Honiton Road in Exeter (opposite the Met Office) at 10 am this Sunday.

In the carpark, no roads. As I understand it we should be able to fit in circuit of just short of 1km so it should be interesting.
There isn't a cost to this Sunday since it's a trial day but the following three races will be £2 for youffs and £6 per adults. I can't guarantee it at this stage but there may well be cash prizes so you could get you money back and then some.... if you're quick enough
All being well i shouldn't need a lift, but i ain't let the good wife know of my absence yet so watch this space. Also i'm yet to purchase my avp kit for the 2010 season, so if a spare supersized avp top is spare for a photo opportunity could one loan it for 2 mins on the day
