National Bike Week Event Sunday June 14th 2009 - Live Local, Get Cycling!
As part of its now annual contribution to the week Axe Valley Pedallers are hosting their 5th AVP National Bike Week Event on Sunday 14th June 09. Cyclists of all abilities are invited to attend the mass cycling event and assemble at Seaton Tourist Information Centre for 10am.
Bike Week is the biggest nationwide cycling event in the UK. This year it runs from 13th – 21st June. A national celebration of cycling, Bike Week helps you get more out of life - by getting on your bike and exploring your local community.
New for 2009, Bike Week focuses on encouraging families to taking up cycling as a regular activity in their local community. Bike Week is the time to "live local and get cycling."
Founder of AVP Alistair ‘Madal’ Cope will welcome all with a short safety talk and introduce the days rides which as usual will be lead and backmarked by members of AVP.
4 rides will be on offer so there will be something for all cycling abilities comprising:
- An off road mountain bike ride lead by ‘Buster C’
- A short family ride lead by ‘No 10’
- A medium on road ride of up to 15 miles or so lead by ‘Tigger’; and finally
- A longer ride on road ride usually up to around 20-25 miles lead by ‘Woodworm’
The aim of all 4 rides is to all re-assemble at the old concrete bridge at Axmouth harbour at about 12.15pm for our usual group photo and then to cycle along the Esplanade with bells ringing and flags flying announcing the virtues of cycling in the Axe Valley. From here we will then cycle/push/walk our bikes up Castle Hill and onto Cliff Field Gardens for a cycling picnic. Here any new members will be welcome to formally join and sign up to the Club (see our Membership officers No.10 and Fishnet on the day).
It promises to be a wonderful day with plenty of blue skies so to the folk and families of Seaton and the surrounding villages dust off your bikes and get out cycling.
(Please note that we encourage all who are attending to wear cycle helmets and all children under the age of 16 are recommended to be accompanied with an adult). |
